The Kingfisher range of RTUs has been installed in over 25,000 installations worldwide. It's modular design allows ease of maintenance and it supports many communication standards.

The Kingfisher PLUS+ Remote Terminal Unit design allows the user to create custom solutions by plugging a wide range of modules onto a backplane. This flexibility allows RTUs to be constructed to meet the exact needs of each site.

Each RTU can have as few as four I/O and one communication port to thousands of I/O and sixteen communication ports.

Once your requirements are establised, simply customise a Kingfisher PLUS+ RTU to meet your needs. Should your requirements grow in the future, just upgrade your existing RTU by plugging in new modules or downloading new firmware. Now that's true flexibility and future proofing!

The Kingfisher PLUS+ RTU range combines the desired features of the traditional RTU with many improvements and product enhancements.

The features traditionally found in most RTUs include:

    • Remote acquisition and control of industrial I/O signals
    • Flexible and efficient communications to remote sites
    • Operation on low cost, low grade radio and telephone line communication links
    • An industrial computer that has been hardened to operate in the harsh environment of remote locations
    • Battery backup
    • Low power operation - suitable for low cost solar installation
    • Electrical isolation of I/O and communication circuits Option-R-CP-11

The PLUS+ RTU adds an array of features including:

    • ISaGRAF IEC-61131-3 5 langauge programming (CP-30)
    • IEC-61499 Distributed processing (CP-30)
    • 32MB Expanded memory allows even greater event log data (CP-30)
    • High speed scanning of I/O signals
    • Simultaneous operation of multiple communication circuits
    • Ladder logic programming for control applications
    • Powerful analog processing capability including PIDs
    • Over 70 communications protocols including: Kingfisher, Modbus, DNP3, Allen Bradley DF1, Omron.
    • Event and polled operation
    • Time and date stamped data
    • Redundant processors and power supply capability
    • Self configuring of I/O modules at startup
    • Powerful configuration and diagnostic tools in PC based software - Toolbox
    • On-line and remote configuration

Flexibility to create the pefect RTU solution

Kingfisher PLUS+ individual modules can be assembled in almost any configuration to achieve the best solution.

    • 4 to > 1000 I/O
    • 1 to 16 communication ports
    • Backplanes may be daisy chained to expand I/O and communication ports capacity
    • Multi I/O modules combine analog and digital I/Os (eg. 2 x AI, 8 x DI, 2 x DO) in one module.

    Easy upgrade path

The modular design of Kingfisher PLUS+ RTUs allows its capacity to be expanded by plugging in new modules and it's capabilites increased by downloading new firmware or software.

Connects to a range of communication equipment

Kingfisher RTUs can connect to a wide range of media that include: LP-1

    • Dedicated radio
    • Packet radio
    • License-Free Spread Spectrum 900MHz or 2.4GHz
    • Satellite
    • PSTN dial-up
    • POCSAG / PET / TAP Pager protocols
    • GSM/Cellular (voide grade and dedicated data)
    • two-wire and four-wire leased lines
    • ISDN
    • RS232 / RS485 / RS422
    • Ethernet - Copper & Fibre
    • Fibre optic
    • GPRS (General Packet Radio Service)
    • SMS Messaging (Mobile phone)

    Processing power

Powerful Intel processors, large memory capacity and real-time operating system provide the power for quick logic processing, communications and data storage. Kingfisher RTUs provide control capabilities that were previously only available in PLCs.

Compatible with many devices and networks

Kingfisher PLUS+ RTUs communicate using a wide range of protocols that provide connection to local devices such as:

    • PLCs
    • Flow computers
    • Shaft encoders
    • Smart transducers
    • Circuit breakers
    • Pager radios and many more

One of Kingfisher PLUS+ strengths is the ability to communicate and acquire data from various systems and devices. Just some of the protocols we support are:

Allen Bradley DF1, Alstom Relay, ASCII, Datataker, Dambach, Datran, DNP3 protocol, Enraf, Fuji, GE PLC, Genisys Train Control, GPS NMEA, Hart, Hayes AT command set, Hohner, IDEC, Inline, Mercury, Minitran, Mobitex, MODBUS protocol, Modicon, Multitrode, NEC DCU, Omron PLC, Simatic, Tandberg, TCP/IP, Trio, YSI and emulation of many other RTU and PLC manufacturers' protocols.

Kingfisher PLUS+ RTUs can be downloaded with new communication protocols as they become available. If you require a protocol for your application that is not listed here, please ask us at info@rtunet.com We are only too happy to talk to you about your requirements.

We also have our very own Kingfisher protocol, if you would like to integrate our RTUs into your application, we can provide the Kingfisher protocol document on request, please ask us at info@rtunet.com

    Easy configuration

Toolbox32, a Microsoft Windows based RTU configuration and diagnostic program offers on-line help, configuration examples, and drag and drop capabilties. TOOLBOX features IEC 61131-3 compliant ladder logic editing and allows you to configure RTUs remotely or locally, on-line or off-line, and from RTU to RTU, or PC to RTU.

Control is implemented using ladder logic which is compiled and downloaded into the RTU.

The use of databases for definition of I/O and system variables allows the importing and exporting of configuration data to and from other SCADA system databases.

  • Toolbox PLUS+, designed for the CP-30 processor module brings you a totally new integrated operating environment that combines configuration, programming, development, and maintenance in one simple-to-use package.

Now you can view, edit, and diagnose your Kingfisher PLUS+ solution with a single, highly intuitive Outlook-style user interface. Toolbox PLUS+ eliminates the need to change back and forth between software packages or engage in complicated programming as you move from module to module.

With its embedded ISaGRAF IEC-61131-compliant standard, the system can be programmed in five languages. In addition, pre-programmed function blocks make it easy to add new capabilities to your Kingfisher PLUS+ RTU solution.

    Advanced power management features

Power consumption can be reduced by up to 90% by using advanced power management strategies. Kingfisher RTUs can shut down field power between scans and maintain a low power idle state until woken by an event.

    RTU self-configuration

The PLUS+ RTU auto-detects the presence of modules plugged in the backplane(s), and will generate alarms if a module fails or is inserted in the wrong location. Modules can be 'hot swapped' or added while the RTU is running.

    Plug it in an GO!

Kingfisher RTUs are designed to plug in and go to work for you with a minimum of fuss.
