 There are many applications for Kingfisher RTUs in the power industry. The more popular applications include pole top switching applications, substation automation, power plant control and customer metering.
A number of recent applications for Kingfisher RTUs have been in substation automation projects. Electrical substations typically require RTUs with large I/O counts, isolated communications and I/O connections, system-wide clock synchronisation, event logging and sequence of events recording. The Kingfisher RTU also includes additional functionality for power industry applications with its multi-protocol capability, allowing connection to intelligent reclosers and other field devices.
The acceptance and use of industry standard protocols such as DNP3 allows the Kingfisher RTU to be added to existing RTU networks, ensuring customers benefit from the pricing advantage of multi-vendor solutions.
